User Guide

CommentLedger helps you review Jira comment history, including comment creation, edits, and deletions.

What you can do

Depending on your access, you can view comment history for an issue, browse comment history across issues, filter by issue, user, or date range, sort history in different ways, and export history.

Reading the timeline

Each event may include the time it happened, the user associated with the change, the original comment author when that differs from the actor, the captured comment body, and the previous body for edits when available.

Issue-level history

CommentLedger can show history for the current issue.

Use this when you want to answer questions like who edited a comment, when something was deleted, or what a previous version said.

Global browsing

The CommentLedger page lets you browse history across issues. It shows issues from any project where you have the View Comment Audit Log project permission.

This is useful for investigations, reviewing recent comment activity, and filtering history to a specific issue or user.

Filters and sorting

You can show only Created, Edited, or Deleted events, filter to one issue, user, or date range, and sort by latest activity or by earliest or latest comment id.

Exports

CommentLedger offers CSV, HTML, PDF, and XLSX exports.

Exports are useful when you need to share history with others, keep offline records, or review events outside Jira.

Access limits

What you can see depends on your permissions.

You may not be able to view all history if you do not have access to the issue, you do not have the View Comment Audit Log project permission, or the comment was restricted and you are not allowed to view it.

Why some history may look different

Some records may indicate that they were recovered later or imported after installation. That usually means the app reconstructed or imported that history rather than capturing it live at the exact moment it happened.

This is normal and helps make historical records more complete.

If something seems missing

First check whether you are looking at the correct issue, whether filters are hiding events, and whether your account has permission to view the history.

If it still seems wrong, contact your Jira admin or support.
