After installation, CommentLedger begins capturing new comment activity, preparing a background import of older comment history, and making issue and global history views available to permitted users.
Depending on the user's Jira configuration and permissions, CommentLedger can appear in the issue-level comment history panel, the issue sidebar panel, the CommentLedger global page under Apps in the sidebar, the action menu on an issue to export or open the global page, and the administrator or operations view in the app settings.
View Comment Audit Log is a project permission. It controls who can see comment history on issues and in the global page. Add it to your project permission schemes and grant it to the roles that should have access. Project administrators receive this permission by default.
Manage CommentLedger Settings is a global permission. It controls who can open the CommentLedger Settings page and run operations like maintenance and retention changes. Jira administrators receive this permission by default.
The global CommentLedger page is visible to all logged-in users, but it only shows issues from projects where the user has the View Comment Audit Log permission. Users without it in any project will see an empty page.
If a user can browse an issue in Jira but cannot see CommentLedger panels on that issue, check that View Comment Audit Log has been added to the project's permission scheme.
CommentLedger may need time to populate older history after installation. During that period, new activity may appear first while older history appears gradually. Some sites will finish quickly, while larger sites may take longer.
